Summer Access for Lexis and Westlaw

The titans of online legal research have special rules during the summer. If you don't ask for special access, they both severely limit your search capabilities. Be sure to follow these instructions before June 1, or you may find yourself cut off from your electronic lifeline!

Lexis: Current 1Ls and 2Ls can go to http://www.lexisnexis.com/lawschool/tps/content.asp?pid=732 to register for full-use summer access for externships or unpaid legal jobs.

If you're graduating, go to the same web site listed above, and you'll have bar exam access to the LexisNexis database until August 1. At that time, your LexisNexis ID will expire permanently (so be sure to use up your rewards points before then!).

Westlaw: All students can log on to "My Home Page" on Westlaw's site (http://lawschool.westlaw.com/) and click on the big "Does your summer forecast call for Westlaw? Extend your Westlaw password this summer" box at the bottom center of the page.

Extended Exam Hours Begin Sunday

With finals about to begin, the ASL Library will stay open until 2 am instead of midnight. Extended access begins the evening of Sunday, April 20 (yes, technically, it's Monday morning) and will end on the last day of finals (5 pm, Friday, May 2).

You will need a valid ASL ID card to access the building on weekdays after 5 pm and all day on weekends. Our Circulation Desk hours will remain the same.

National Library Week: Day 5

Thanks to all the participants in National Library Week 2008! We've listed the prize winners on our National Library week page. Prizes can be picked up at the Circulation Desk. (Answers are posted on Chris' door.)

Hopefully, we'll see even more people during National Library Week 2009 (April 12-18)!

National Library Week: Day 4

People often say that law school can be a puzzle, but when it comes to ASL and National Library Week, they're right! Today's final puzzle for the week is based on a sudoku game, with letters instead of numbers. As a bonus, the letters used in each puzzle will spell out a name. The three names all do have something in common, so that may help you solve the extra puzzle. Download that puzzle, or any of the other puzzles from this week, at our National Library Week page.

Don't forget that we'll be drawing names out of our puzzle box tomorrow for prizes; we'll put a note in your mailbox if you've won!

National Library Week: Day 3

Do you remember the first day of classes, when you walked around campus looking for your classes? You won't have to look as far (but maybe just as hard) for today's National Library Week puzzle. Find the ASL classes hidden in the grid (it's a word search). When you're finished, the unused letters will spell out a quotation and its speaker. For today's puzzle, stop by the Circulation Desk or download it from our National Library Week page.

National Library Week: Day 2

Today's National Library Week puzzle is about the bar exam. Out of the listed questions, can you tell which ones are fact and which ones are fiction? (There are a few tricky ones thrown in there!) Check out today's puzzle -- along with all of the others -- on our National Library Week page.

National Library Week: Day 1

Happy National Library Week! Once again, we have a week of law- and library-themed puzzles to solve in order to win some nice prizes donated by LexisNexis and Westlaw. A new puzzle will be posted to our National Library Week page Monday through Thursday this week. Then on Friday, we'll draw names out of a box to determine the winners of the prizes. The official rules are listed on the NLW page. Good luck to all!
