Fall Semester 2020

Our Fall Semester hours begin on Sunday, August 16.

The public is welcome to use the Library Mondays through Fridays, by appointment only.

For our current students, the Library's Circulation/Reserve Desk will be open Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 8 pm, Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from 1 pm to 8 pm (except on specific holidays and breaks).

With a valid ID card, students now have access to the Library building from 8 am to 9 pm. Security guards will be on campus from 8 am to 9 pm, with some modifications for holidays and school breaks.

Spring Break - February 29-March 8

As a reminder, the Library will continue to have 24-hour access during Spring Break for all students with a valid ID card.

The Circulation Desk will be open to students on Saturday, February 29, from 9 am to 5 pm. From Monday, March 2, through Friday, March 6, the Circulation Desk will be open from 8 am to 5 pm. Normal Circulation Desk hours return on Sunday, March 8, from noon to 8 pm.

We will be open to the public Monday, March 2, through Friday, March 6, from 9 am to 4 pm. We are closed to the public on weekends.

MLK Day Hours 2020 (January 20)

The Library will have more limited staffed hours on Monday, January 20, 2020, for the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday.

On Monday, the Circulation/Reserve Desk will be open to students from 10 am to 5 pm. Students with a valid ID card will continue to have 24-hour access to the building.

There is no change to our prior weekend schedule. Our Circulation/Reserve Desk will be open to students from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday (Jan. 18) and from noon to 8 pm on Sunday (Jan. 19).

The Library will be closed to the public for the three-day holiday weekend.

Spring Semester 2020

Our Spring Semester hours begin on Sunday, January 5, 2020.

The public is welcome to use the Library Mondays through Fridays, 8 am to 5 pm, except on holidays and school breaks.

For our current students, the Library's Circulation/Reserve Desk will be open Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 8 pm, Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from noon to 8 pm (except on specific holidays and breaks).

With a valid ID card, students now have access to the Library building 24 hours a day. Security guards will be on campus from 9 am to midnight Mondays through Saturdays and noon to midnight on Sundays, with some modifications for holidays and school breaks.

Transfer Students/Spring Starts


If you have recently transferred to ASL, or are coming in early for our Spring Start program, you will be able to access the Library on Sunday, January 5. Please use our side-door entrance (look for the wheelchair ramp). You'll be getting your ID card, Lexis/Westlaw passwords, and wireless network access later in the week, but we'll try to assist you if we can!

Winter Break 2019-2020

The Library will have very limited hours during ASL's Winter Break.


Exams end on Friday, December 13. The Library will close at 5 pm that day, with no extended student card access.

The Library will be closed to all on Saturday, December 14, and Sunday, December 15.

Beginning the week of December 16-20, students with a valid ID card will have 24 hour access to the Library.

For public patrons, please be aware our staff may be limited during the weeks of December 16-20, and on January 2 and 3. If you are a public patron who wants to use the Library during that time, please call us to ensure we'll be open (276-935-6688 x1308).

Our normal school schedule will begin on Sunday, January 5. Please see our school schedule.

Exam Access Fall 2019

Beginning the evening of Sunday, December 1, the Library will offer extended card access during the two weeks of exams. Instead of closing at midnight, the Library will close at 2 am each night for our students. This extended access will end on the last day of exams, which is Friday, December 13, at 5 pm. Our Circulation/Reserve Desk hours remain the same.


If you need a replacement ID card, please go to the Business Office to pay for a replacement card (it is still $5). You will then pick up your replacement ID card at the Information Services office near the Student Activity Center. (The Library no longer issues ID cards.)

Thanksgiving Break 2019

The Library will have more limited hours during Thanksgiving Break.

On Saturday, November 23, the Library will be available with card access from 9 am to midnight. The Circulation/Reserve Desk will not be staffed.

On Sunday, November 24, the Library will be available with card access from 2 pm to 10 pm. The Circulation/Reserve Desk will not be staffed.

On Monday, November 25, and Tuesday, November 26, the Library will be available with card access from 6 am to 10 pm. The Circulation/Reserve Desk will be staffed from 9 am to 4 pm. We are also open to the public from 9 am to 4 pm these days.

On Wednesday, November 27, the Library will be available with card access from 6 am to noon, with the Circulation/Reserve Desk open from 9 am to noon. We will be open to the public from 9 am to noon.

ASL will be closed on Thursday, November 28. There will be no card access to the Library or any other campus building.

On Friday, November 29, and Saturday, November 30, the Library will be available with card access from 9 am to midnight. The Circulation/Reserve Desk will not be staffed. There is no public access during this extended holiday weekend.

On Sunday, December 1, the Library will be available with card access from noon to 2 am Monday morning. The Circulation/Reserve Desk will be staffed normal hours (noon to 8 pm).

Labor Day 2019 Hours

The Library will have more limited hours on Monday, September 2, for Labor Day.

We will be closed to the public all day on Monday, September 2. We are also not open to the public on the preceding weekend days.

Students will have card access from noon to midnight on Labor Day itself. Thanks to our student workers, the Circulation/Reserve Desk will be open from noon to 8 pm on Monday.

There are no changes to our preceding weekend hours. Students will have card access to the Library from 9 am to midnight on Saturday, August 30, and from noon to midnight on Sunday, September 1. Our Circulation/Reserve Desk hours will be 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and noon to 8 pm on Sunday.

Additionally, due to the school event on Tuesday, September 3, the Library's Circulation/Reserve Desk will close at 5 pm. Students will continue to have access to the Library until midnight.

Fall Semester 2019 Hours

Our Fall Semester 2019 hours begin on Sunday, August 18.

For our students, we will generally have the Circulation/Reserve Desk open on Mondays through Thursdays from 8 am to 8 pm, on Fridays from 8 am to 5 pm, on Saturdays from 9 am to 5 pm, and on Sundays from noon to 8 pm. However, all students with a current ID can access the Library from 6 am to midnight Mondays through Fridays, from 9 am to midnight Saturdays, and noon to midnight Sundays. (Note that we are updating our card-reader system, but all "old" cards will still work until they are replaced during the first week of classes.)

Our public patrons are invited to use the Library from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. We do not offer public hours on the weekends.

These hours are always subject to change, especially during school breaks. A list of most of our holidays and breaks can be found on our Library Hours page. We will post any changes on the main ASL Library page.

Welcome, Class of 2022!

If you're going to be attending our Introduction to Law week (Orientation), you'll still be able to visit and use the Library even before you get your ID card for access!

On Sunday, August 11, new students will be able to access the Library using our side-entry door (which faces the Classroom Building) from 2 pm to midnight. We will staff the Circulation/Reserve Desk from 2 pm to 6 pm. The Library will be closed to the public.

From Monday, August 12, through Thursday, August 15, new students will be able to access the Library from 8 am to midnight. Our Circulation/Reserve Desk will be open from 8 am to 6 pm each day. Public patrons are invited to use the Library between 9 am and 5 pm on those days.

On Friday, August 16, new students will be able to access the Library from 8 am to midnight. Our Circulation/Reserve Desk will be open from 8 am to 5 pm. Public patrons will have access from 9 am to 4 pm.

We will have card-access-only hours on Saturday, August 17, from 9 am to midnight. The Circulation/Reserve Desk will not be staffed, and we are not open to the public. Our normal school year hours will begin on Sunday, August 18.

You will be getting your ID card pictures taken on Monday before lunch; you will also get a chance to set up your network access at the same time. We expect to hand out Class of 2022 ID cards on Tuesday or Wednesday, along with various passwords to certain legal databases.

Independence Day 2019 Hours

We will be closed completely on Thursday, July 4, for Independence Day. There will be no public access, and students will not have card access, as the entire campus will be closed for the holiday.

We also will not be staffed on Friday, July 5. Students will have card access to the Library.

(Don't forget that Grundy's celebration will be held on Saturday, June 29, with live music at the town center beginning at 7 pm. Fireworks will begin at dusk.)

Memorial Day 2019 Hours

The ASL Campus will be closed on Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day. The Library will be closed to the public.

Current students and Class of 2019 graduates can access the Library on Saturday, May 25, from noon to 6 pm; on Sunday, May 26, from 2 pm to 10 pm; and on Monday, May 27, from noon to 10 pm. The Circulation/Reserve Desk will not be staffed during the three-day weekend.

Summer 2019 Hours

The Library will switch to summer hours beginning on Monday, May 6.

The Library will be open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm.

Our Class of 2019 graduates and our continuing students will have card access hours Monday through Friday, 8 am to 10 pm; Saturday, 9 am to 6 pm; and Sunday, 9 am to 6 pm. Please be aware that we will be upgrading our card access system this summer, so if we have to change access procedures, we'll hang signs in the Library.

We will be completely closed (with no card access) beginning at 5 pm on Friday, May 3, through Sunday, May 5, for Commencement weekend. We will also be completely closed (with no card access) on Memorial Day (Monday, May 27), and Independence Day (Thursday, July 4).

(Edited on June 10 to change Saturday and Sunday card access hours.)

Exam Access - Spring 2019

The Library will once again be offering extra access to the building during the exam weeks. Beginning on Sunday, April 21, the Library will remain open via card access until 2 am each night while finals are held. This extended access will end on the final day of exams, which is Friday, May 3, at 5 pm.

(Additionally, due to Easter, the Library will not be staffed on Sunday, April 21. Students will still have ID card access to the building from noon to 2 am Monday.)

If you need a replacement ID card, please stop by the Library during normal business hours with $5 (cash or check).

Spring Break: March 3-9

The Library will have more limited hours during the school's Spring Break week, which is March 3 through 9.

On Sunday, March 3, and Saturday, March 9, the Library will not be staffed. Students will still have card access to the building from noon to midnight on Sunday, March 3, and from 9 am to midnight on Saturday, March 9. (These are our normal card-access hours on those weekend days.)

During the week of March 4 through March 8, we will staff the Library from 9 am to 4 pm. Students will have card access from 8 am to 9 pm.

Public patrons are welcome to use the Library Monday, March 4, through Friday, March 8, from 9 am to 4 pm. We do not have public hours on the weekends.

Our normal hours resume on Sunday, March 10.

ASL Campus CLOSED: Monday, December 10

Due to the winter weather, the ASL Campus will be closed on Monday, December 10. There will be no public access to the Library on Monday. We hope to re-open on Tuesday!
