Updated Grundy Trolley Schedule

Somehow, with all the construction around town, we forgot to update the new Grundy trolley schedule, which is available at http://www.asl.edu/library/trolley.php. Remember, there are several routes and many of them stop at the same locations for drop-offs and pick-ups.
* ASL-only bus: This bus goes directly to ASL from the downtown parking area. It usually stops at the parking area every fifteen minutes, beginning at 7:15 am Monday through Friday. Service ends at 5:15 pm Monday through Thursday, and at 6:30 pm on Friday.
* Courthouse-only bus: This bus goes directly to the Courthouse and Post Office from the downtown parking area. It usually stops at the parking area every fifteen minutes, beginning at 7:15 am Monday through Friday. Service ends at 5:15 pm Monday through Thursday, and at 6:30 pm on Friday.
* Regular trolley: This bus makes a long loop around town. It picks up at the Theater, the Grundy Church of Christ parking lot, and the downtown parking lot. Then it circles around construction to drop off at the Courthouse and Post Office, then the law school.

Finally, there is a county-wide transit bus that can take you to Richlands and beyond. Please remember that boarding this bus does require paying a fare. All other local bus service is free.

In Memoriam: Judge H. Emory Widener

Judge H. Emory Widener of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit passed away last week at the age of 83. Judge Widener played a helpful role in the establishment of the Law Library by donating several thousand briefs from the Fourth Circuit. Many of our students have used these briefs, sometimes as templates for their legal process assignments, and sometimes for support in framing an argument in a particular area of the law.

The Associated Press carried a story about Widener's death.

Constitution Day: First Amendment Presentation

On September 18, ASL will celebrate Constitution Day by offering a presentation by Associate Professor Stewart Harris on "The Jew Who Beat Henry Ford." Professor Harris will recount the story of Aaron Sapiro, a Jewish labor organizer who filed a lawsuit against Henry Ford for libel for Ford's anti-Semitic editorials in Ford's own paper, The Dearborn Independent. (See a Time magazine article from March 1927 about this issue.) Sapiro's lawsuit caused Ford to end publication of the newspaper. Professor Harris will then discuss the issues of "group defamation" and the freedom of the press.

The presentation will be in the Trial Courtroom on Tuesday, September 18, from noon to 1 pm.

Lost Thumb Drives?

We've had some nice folks bring us a few "forgotten" thumb drives (USB drives, flash drives, pen drives, jump drives ... they have a number of different names) from the Library Seminar Room. Most of them have found their owner, but if you've lost yours, check at the Circulation Desk.

We do attempt to identify the owners of these drives. If you would like us to help you, consider creating a text file (perhaps named "_iffound.txt" with the underscore first to make the filename appear first in the file listing) with your name and perhaps phone number or e-mail address. Then, if we find your misplaced thumb drive, we can notify you and you won't spend hours looking for it!
