National Library Week 2011: Day 5

All good things must come to an end, and thus we wrap up another successful National Library Week. Thanks to all our student and staff puzzlers who completed one puzzle -- or several puzzles -- all week. National Library Week 2011: Day 4

The Appalachian School of Law Library finishes up with the puzzles today. We'd tell you the theme, but it's a clue to the puzzle itself! We're big fans of National Puzzle Day -- celebrated on January 29, which is on a Saturday this year -- partially because we offer puzzles during National Library Week (April 10-16). To celebrate the day, we have another logic puzzle for you to solve. Sorry, no prizes for this one.

National Library Week Day 5

Thanks to all who tried the challenging puzzles this year to celebrate National Library Week! National Library Week Day 4

We stumped a lot of people with our "word sudoku" for yesterday's National Library Week puzzle, and we think today's puzzle is even harder! We have some legally-themed quotations from some famous movies, but they're all scrambled! Do your best to unscramble them before tomorrow's deadline to be eligible to win a prize!

Today is the last day of puzzles for National Library Week. We'll be having the prize drawing tomorrow at 10 am (winners need not be present to win; we'll leave a note in your mailbox if you win). National Library Week Day 3

Another day, another puzzle! The ASL Library celebrates National Library Week by offering law- and library-themed puzzles during the week. Today's puzzle is a "word sudoku" -- instead of numbers, we use letters. There's a reason why we've used certain letters in the puzzles, so after you've finished the sudoku puzzles, unscramble the letters to find phrases that have something in common.

National Library Week continues at the ASL Library with yet another puzzle. Today we have a word search full of law school graduates who found success doing something else. It's good to know that there are other options for those with a legal degree but a waning interest in the law :)

National Library Week Day 4

We've been trying to keep a theme going this week with our National Library Week puzzles: core legal skills. Tuesday's puzzle incorporated legal research terms, and Wednesday's puzzle had some phrases commonly found in legal writing. Today's puzzle -- the final one for 2009 -- has elements from professional responsibility. As always, all of our puzzles can be found on our National Library Week page.

Today's National Library Week puzzle deals with legal writing. Find all the slightly redundant phrases that creep into legal documents inside our grid. When finished, the unused letters can be used to read a quotation about writing from a famous legal author. All of our National Library Week puzzles can be found on our National Library Week page.

National Library Week Day 2

National Library Week continues with the theme of core legal skills: Today's puzzle features some terms from legal research class. Using logic, try to fit the words into the crossword-puzzle-like grid. All of our puzzles can be found on our National Library Week page. We'll have a slightly easier puzzle tomorrow! :)

National Library Week Day 1

This year, the beginning of National Library Week happens to fall on Thomas Jefferson's birthday (it was his collection that helped rebuild the Library of Congress after the War of 1812).

ASL again offers some challenging puzzles about *our* library to celebrate National Library Week. Our puzzles are collected on our National Library Week page. Prizes from Lexis and Westlaw are only available for eligible entrants (faculty, staff, and students at ASL). There are different puzzles to come for most of the week, so check back tomorrow for more!

National Puzzle Day 2009

When President Obama campaigned on a platform of change, we were hoping he might consider making National Puzzle Day a national holiday. He didn't this year, but he's been dealing with some bigger issues.

On January 29 -- National Puzzle Day -- we provide a logic puzzle to drum up interest in National Library Week, which this year will be April 12-18. During that week, we have several puzzles for our students to solve for an opportunity to win prizes. (No prizes today, though. Sorry!)

People often say that law school can be a puzzle, but when it comes to ASL and National Library Week, they're right! Today's final puzzle for the week is based on a sudoku game, with letters instead of numbers. As a bonus, the letters used in each puzzle will spell out a name.
